McDonald’s Calorie Calculator

Add menu items to your order and see the total calories for the whole meal.

Presets use US menu values. Menus differ by country, so use the custom option for local figures.

A McDonald’s meal can range from under 300 calories to well over 1,500, depending on what you order. This calculator adds up every item in your order so you see one total. A Big Mac, medium fries and a medium Coca-Cola come to about 1,120 calories using the US values in the tool.

    How to use the calculator

    1. Pick an item from the menu list. Items are grouped as burgers, nuggets, sides, breakfast, drinks and desserts.
    2. Enter the quantity. Use whole numbers from 1 to 50.
    3. Press Add to meal. The item appears in your list and the total updates.
    4. Repeat for every item in your order.
    5. Check the daily target box. It starts at 2,000 calories. Change it to your own number if you have one.
    6. Use Remove beside an item to take it out, or Clear meal to start again.

Your menu may not be in the list, or you may be outside the US. Choose Custom value. Type the calories per item from your local McDonald’s nutrition page, then add the quantity.

    How it works

The maths is simple multiplication and addition.

    • For each line, calories per item times quantity gives the line total.
    • Add all the line totals to get the meal total.
    • Divide the meal total by your daily target and multiply by 100 to get the percentage of the day.
    • Subtract the meal total from your daily target to see what is left.

The preset calories follow the McDonald’s US nutrition information. The 2,000 calorie default is the general reference the US FDA uses on food labels. It is not a personal recommendation. Your own needs depend on your age, size, sex and activity.

    Worked example

You order a Big Mac, a medium fries and a medium Coca-Cola.

    • Big Mac: 1 x 590 = 590 calories
    • French Fries, medium: 1 x 320 = 320 calories
    • Coca-Cola Classic, medium: 1 x 210 = 210 calories

    Total: 590 + 320 + 210 = 1,120 calories.

Against a 2,000 calorie day, that is 1,120 / 2,000 = 56%. You have 880 calories left for the rest of the day.

Now swap the Coca-Cola for water. The total drops to 910 calories, which is about 46% of the day. One drink change saves 210 calories.

    Tips and common mistakes

    • Forgetting the drink. A regular soda can add as many calories as a small burger. Add it to the list.
    • Skipping sauces. Dipping sauces, dressings and extra cheese all add calories. Add them as custom items with the figure from the official page.
    • Picking the wrong size. Fries and drinks come in several sizes. Check which one you chose.
    • Counting nuggets as single items. Pick the box size, such as 10 piece, and set quantity to the number of boxes.
    • Using US numbers abroad. Menus and portions differ by country. Use the custom option with your local figures. McDonald’s Canada, for example, states that its nutrition information applies to Canadian restaurants only.
    • Sharing a meal. If two people split a large fries, divide that line yourself, or add half the calories as a custom item.
    • Trusting a total as medical advice. It is a planning aid. Ask a doctor or dietitian if you have a health condition or a set diet.

    FAQ

How many calories are in a typical McDonald’s meal?

It depends on what you pick. A Big Mac, medium fries and a medium Coca-Cola add up to about 1,120 calories using the US values in this tool. Swapping the drink for water or diet soda lowers the total by about 210 calories.

Are McDonald’s calories the same in every country?

No. Recipes, portion sizes and menus differ by country. The presets here follow the US menu. For the UK, Canada, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia or elsewhere, use the custom option with the figure from your local McDonald’s site.

Does the calculator include sauces, dressings and extras?

Only if you add them. Use the custom item option for sauces, extra cheese or other changes, and enter the calories from the official nutrition page.

How many calories should I eat in a day?

Needs vary by age, size, sex and activity. Food labels in the US use 2,000 calories a day as a general reference. You can change that number in the tool to match your own target.

Can I use this for the whole family’s order?

Yes. Add every item with its quantity. The total covers the whole order, so divide by the number of people if you want a rough per-person figure.
